Your Boca Raton Insurance Team

Brian Samberg Profile PhotoSenior Vice President

Experience: 35 years

A native of Brooklyn, New York and the son of a modest middle class family, Samberg had the dream of starting a successful independent insurance agency. He graduated from Pace University in New York in 1979. He majored in accounting with a minor in finance. Upon graduation he relocated to South Florida with his family. He worked as an accountant for Kraft Inc. for five and a half years. “While working as an accountant, one of my accounts was an insurance agency that my best friend, Joel Sansone, worked for. Joel was unhappy at his current agency and we decided to start our own insurance agency,” Samberg said. “He ended up having a disagreement with his employer and wanted to open his own place. I took a leap of faith and joined him.”

They started Southeast Insurance in 1985. The insurance agency packaged home, auto, collectables and umbrella coverage insurance for individuals. “We started on a shoestring,” explained Samberg. “It was just the two of us and we did everything. We marketed, wrote business, met with companies, handled the accounting function. We did everything.”

Samberg and Sansone stayed together running Southeast Insurance until 1993, when Sansone decided that he wanted to get involved in other opportunities. Samberg acquired Sansone’s shares of the business and ran it on his own from 1993 through 2017, when NSI acquired it. After Samberg became sole owner of Southeast Insurance, he made another pivotal decision that changed his life. He moved to Boca Raton, Florida. He brought the insurance agency with him.

Samberg credits his work ethic and skill set for being able to grow the business. He learned quickly that he had to hustle for business. “We opened the doors of the business with just a few companies and we learned quickly that we needed to expand the number of companies we were working with,” said Samberg. “We needed more capacity to assist our clients, and we reached out to an industry veteran to help us with that. He taught us that there are several insurance associations in Florida and they could help find and recruit companies.”

One of those associations that helped him was Professional Insurance Association (PIA). “They advised and encouraged us to attend conventions where we could meet people from many companies and sign them up. They advised us as to what information we should bring with us to the conventions. We learned that you don’t show up to one of those events with just a business card; you show up with a business and marketing plan as well as resumes.” Executives of PIA were impressed by Samberg as a quick learner and nominated and elected him to their board of directors.

Samberg is certified with the CPIA and CPRIA. As a board member of PIA, he expanded his involvement in the insurance trade. He traveled around the country including Tallahassee and Washington, D.C. annually to lobby legislators on behalf of his client base. His hard work for PIA and the success of Southeast Insurance were instrumental in making him President of the association. He served two terms as President of Professional Insurance Agents in Florida. He was also elected National Director for the State of Florida, which made him a National Board Member and a State Board Member. He retired from PIA in October 2019. He has also served on insurance company advisory councils including Travelers and Progressive. He is part of the leadership team at NSI. NSI writes policies in all 50 states and in 70 countries around the world.

Samberg is nurturing and protective. Those are two characteristics that help make him a compassionate insurance agent. “I was an accounting major and finance minor in college,” explained Samberg. “The school gave us a personality exam to help us plan our careers. I continuously scored very high on the insurance exams. My career counselor told me that I was more suited for the insurance business. I remembered that when I was working as an accountant. I like taking care of people, especially when they’re having  tough times. We are vulnerable to hurricanes in South Florida and that has resulted in catastrophic moments for clients. That’s when we stand the tallest.”

When asked what he enjoyed most about being an insurance agent, Samberg concluded, “Literally taking care of people. My father, who’s my hero, told me to treat people better than you expect to be treated.” I have carried that with me every step of the way.

Gary Mielz Profile PhotoPersonal Lines Marketing

Experience: 12 years

Gary Mielz is originally from Long Island, New York and moved to Boca Raton FL in January of 2000. He came to Florida to help run his  father’s medial supply company that he had started a number of years prior to Gary’s arrival. They ran the company successfully for just about 8 years. Upon his father’s unexpected passing and subsequent sale of the business, Gary found myself in need of a new challenge. Having worked in financial services in New York (he had worked for Morgan Stanley for 13 years) he decided to pursue a career in Insurance.

After getting his insurance license, his dear friend, Brian Samberg asked him to come work for his agency in Boca Raton which was Southeast Insurance (prior to merging with NSI). It is there where he received his training and developed his skills to become an effective property and casualty insurance agent.

When asked about NSI Gary said, “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time working for NSI Insurance! NSI is truly a family and they have shown time and time again that they truly support their employees. We provide insurance expertise in a wide range of insurance products and NSI as a whole is highly respected in the industry. I thoroughly enjoy my co-workers here in the Boca Raton office as well as throughout the firm and look forward to seeing everybody whether it’s at a holiday party or company event.”

One of the things Gary loves most about marketing insurance is the challenge of meeting someone for the first time, whether it’s in person, over the phone or via e-mail and gaining their trust to become their agent. Gary says, “As we know, the consumer has many choices when it comes to choosing an agent and there is no greater feeling when they choose me and trust me with insuring some of their largest investments, be it their home or their vehicles, etc. I love dealing with the public and have made a lot of friends and acquaintances over the years just by doing my job. I also love it when I receive correspondence from a new client and they tell me that I was highly recommended to them. The most rewarding aspect is when I receive “Thank You’s” from our client’s telling me how they appreciated my efforts and that I made the process a smooth one for them.”

When it comes down to insurance itself, Gary has most of his experience and enjoys personal lines the most.  He says homeowner’s insurance is his favorite type of insurance to work with, stating, “Each home presents a different challenge which is why I think I like it the most. Insurance for homes has many variables, such as location, age of home, square footage just to name a few. All of these variables make it a challenge as to where we can place the business and still try and find the most cost-effective policy for the insured.”

Account Manager

Experience: 29 Years

Lori Samberg is a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native but relocated to Florida when she attended the University of Miami, graduating with a BBA in International Finance and Marketing in 1991. Upon graduation, she decided she would stick around Florida for a while. She has never left.

After accepting a position with Prudential Financial in 1992, Lori officially began her now almost 30-year career within the insurance industry. She credits her time at Prudential for an incredible and educational introduction into the market, launching her into a profession where she’d find great joy and success.

Shortly after working at Prudential, Lori and her now husband Brian decided to open their own insurance agency together in Fort Lauderdale: Southeast Insurance. It wasn’t long before they opened a second location in Boca Raton in 1993, which grew into a healthy and thriving business, which was eventually acquired by NSI Insurance Group 20 years later in 2013.

Lori’s favorite part about working in insurance is keeping up with the constantly changing market. Specific to Florida, the market is incredibly unpredictable due to the hurricane-prone climate. It takes a close level of attention to stay current on the market’s frequent changes, the level of attention Lori consistently prioritizes for the betterment of her clients.

Lori takes great pride in finding her clients the most competitive rates on the market. She understands that because of the volatility of insurance, but especially in Florida, one company’s best and most competitive rate for a specific year may not be the same case for the following year. With her knowledge and experience in adapting to these constant changes, she confidently and proactively works to find the best possible rates for her clients.

Lori values the company culture at NSI, and she appreciates working in a smaller office setting with people who are dedicated to working together and helping one another find solutions. She loves that the principles of pitching in and finding answers for others on the team when necessary is consistently the norm. Their small office atmosphere creates a feeling of camaraderie, not only with the entire NSI team but also with their clients.

Lori knows her clients on a personal level and feels that this is the best and most efficient way to serve them. She finds comfort in knowing that when a client needs to contact NSI, they will never be dialing into a 1-800 number and talking to different agents every time. Lori prides herself on the familiarity she has with each and every one of her clients, knowing their needs inside and out.

Because “insurance is not something we can touch, see, or feel,” Lori often says, she understands the level of trust that comes into play between her and her clients, including rates, coverage, and any present changes with either.

Lori is a CPIA, Certified Professional Insurance Advisor, which is one of the highest certifications one can receive within the insurance industry. She maintains this certification with continuing education with 20 hours of coursework and renewing every two years.

When Lori isn’t working and assisting clients, she spends time with her dog, Snickers, and participates in her love for tennis. She frequently plays in doubles matches and keeps up with the professional game for fun. Her favorite professional player to watch is Federer and she appreciates the longevity of his career.

Jodi was born in North Shore, Chicago, where she spent most of her young life until she relocated with family to Florida in ’84. After two years, she moved back to Chicago to finish her undergraduate degree at The University of Illinois at Chicago from ’85-’90, receiving a bachelor of science in economics.

Shortly after graduation, Jodi moved back down to Florida in ‘92 to work for her family’s photography business, where she mainly focused on sales but occasionally worked behind the camera, too. Jodi also worked as a food rater during her college years, rating local restaurant menus, which turned her into somewhat of a foodie.

Jodi then went on to spend the next 20 years as a stay-at-home mom to her two kids, while also working for her husband’s business to help keep things running smoothly as an office manager.

Once Jodi’s kids went off to college, she decided she was ready for a new challenge. Knowing somewhat about the insurance industry through her brother, who originated his own insurance agency, she set her sights on acquiring her 4-40 license. The acquisition of this license permits individuals to transact insurance as a salaried employee, thus giving her a valuable tool and the chance to start an insurance career. Later on, Jodi also earned her 2-20 license, which entitles her to sell both personal and commercial lines of insurance, in the office or independently.

After filling a newly available position with NSI, she was confident that they wouldn’t be able to find a better employee. Jodi began working part-time but was quickly moved to full-time and has been working with NSI for the past three and a half years.

Jodi was drawn to the insurance industry because it’s a respectable field where agents are given the opportunity to help clients find great coverage, a skill that she was confident she would excel in. One of the biggest driving forces for Jodi on a daily basis is the customer service aspect. Connecting with people on a personal level and helping them obtain something they can rely on brings Jodi a great deal of joy and satisfaction.

Jodi works strictly with personal insurance lines, which are also her favorite, and additionally plays to her strength in building connections with clients. Her favorite type of personal insurance to work with is homeowners because a person’s home is almost always their largest and most valuable investment. Being able to provide thorough protection for such a significant asset in their lives is something that brings Jodi great joy.

She also appreciates being given the opportunity in her job to execute her keen eye for detail. She is meticulous and places importance on not letting things slip through the cracks. With insurance, this is important as the details of policies and rates are of the utmost importance. As Jodi puts it, “Insurance is good for me because you need to be very meticulous, very spot on, and very detail-oriented. This profession plays into that side of me.”

To no surprise, Jodi received the honor and title of “Employee of The Year” at NSI for 2020. She proudly represents how she would want to be treated as a client through her work as an account manager.

When asked what Jodi loves about working at NSI, she quickly responded, “the people!” She deeply respects and values her boss, Brian, for his kindness, empathy, and trust. She also enjoys the people she works alongside every day who make the environment a positive and empowering one.

Jodi’s biggest takeaway thus far from her career with insurance is simply: “I can do it.” Throughout her insurance career, she set her sights on several goals and is proud of the path she has taken to achieve them, continuously striving to be the best she can be, for her clients and for herself.

When Jodi isn’t helping you find the best coverage at the best price, you can find her on the tennis courts playing doubles matches, on her yoga mat, or spending time with friends at her favorite brunch spot.

Marie is a Moosic, Pennsylvania native who recently relocated to Florida in 2018. Marie attended Pennsylvania State University, where she majored in business marketing and management, and graduated with her undergraduate degree in 2016.

Throughout her college career, Marie became acquainted with the insurance industry when she worked for her uncle at Prudential, serving as his administrative assistant and managing sales recruitment. She then went on, post-college, to work with a foreclosure law office and medical malpractice insurance firm before finding herself on the NSI team in 2020. She credits the experience from her previous employment opportunities for giving her excellent introductory knowledge about insurance.

What Marie enjoys most about working with insurance is the chance to help others. She has been given the opportunity to help people all throughout her employment career, but feels she can really assist others in a specific way when working with insurance.

When asked about what Marie loves most about her job, she responded by saying, “I love dealing with people. I love helping, especially with all these rate increases we’ve been seeing. It’s nice to tell people that we can help them. We can help you to lower that. We can help you to get somewhere else, there’s no need to panic.”

Since joining the NSI team and acquiring her 2-20 license, which entitles her to transact insurance policies to clients, Marie appreciates the team environment and the positive work culture. She finds the people she works alongside to be incredibly helpful, positive, and equally dedicated to serving clients in the most genuine and supportive way. She also recognizes the strong communication amongst the team, and their willingness to step into a role and help when necessary. Marie attributes NSI’s ongoing success to these core values shared by all members of the team.

Marie’s primary role is to service existing accounts, which consists of several detail-oriented duties, including communicating with clients when premiums are due, keeping them updated on any upcoming changes, and answering any questions they have along the way. Marie’s top priority is to ensure that clients are always fully informed on their specific situation. Her favorite type of insurance to work with is homeowners because of the intricacies and various rules within the policies that constantly keep her focused and on her toes.

When asked about her proudest professional accomplishment, Marie expressed gratitude for her drive and willingness to dive into any challenge, no matter the size or magnitude. She also mentioned feeling proud that she can adjust to new environments efficiently. With each job she’s had, and especially with NSI, she has grown from beginner to expert, all because of her tenacity and desire to operate at her very best.

Marie has a history of volunteering in her community and hopes to return, post-covid, when the opportunities resume. She has proudly dedicated her time volunteering for Boca West Hospital, Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, and The Scranton Soup Kitchen. When Marie isn’t working in the office or volunteering in the community, you can find her perfecting her golf swing with her boyfriend on the weekends.

What sets us apart

We give you the power of choice: we represent the highest number of reputable insurance companies for you to choose from

Our team members understand the intricacies and nuances of insurance coverage. We’ve seen it all and will negotiate the best terms on your behalf.

We’re available, reliable, and will get things done. We share a strong passion for protecting what you value most and will advocate to get your claims paid.

Homeowners Insurance

Our homeowners insurance in Boca Raton is unsurpassed. No one likes to think about it, of course, but disasters can strike – even in a paradise such as Florida. If something unexpected should happen to your home, we’ll make sure you get the money you need to get back to normal. We’ll find you a home insurance policy that protects you from weather damage, vandalism, theft and much, much more.
There are a lot of factors that will determine how much your home insurance policy will cost. These include the amount of coverage you want, your home’s age, your home’s replacement value and more. The best way to find out how much you can expect to pay for coverage will be to get in touch with us for a free quote.

Condo Insurance in Boca Raton

A condo insurance agent with NSI can help you cover any gaps that may exist in your current coverage. Our policies can cover you for issues like repairs, replacement of belongings, temporary housing, and even legal bills if someone should be injured on your property.

The state of Florida doesn’t require condo owners to have insurance. But if you belong to a condominium homeowners association, insurance may be required. Your mortgage lender will probably require you to be covered. But whether or not you’re mandated to have coverage, it’s always a good idea.

There are a lot of factors that will determine how much your home insurance policy will cost. These include the amount of coverage you want, your home’s age, your home’s replacement value and more. The best way to find out how much you can expect to pay for coverage will be to get in touch with us for a free quote.

Jewelry Insurance

You might not have ever considered ring insurance, or thought about covering other prized, valuable possessions. If you should ever experience the loss of any of your most beloved items, we can help you get the compensation you need – we can even provide you with a policy that will cover you should you ever lose jewelry while you’re traveling internationally.

If you have expensive, one-of-a-kind jewelry, you should definitely consider getting this coverage. This will especially be true for items such as engagement/wedding rings, rare family heirlooms, and other items that simply can’t be replaced. If you should report a claim and later find the item – which actually happens quite a bit – just make sure you notify us as soon as possible. People who fail to do so could be prosecuted for insurance fraud.

Flood Insurance

NSI is a flood insurance company that will act fast should your property ever suffer damage due to rising water. Even if you don’t live in a so-called “high flood risk” area, that doesn’t mean you’ll never have to deal with high water. While Florida weather is typically beautiful, we can get our share of deluges. If one strikes your home and you’re not covered for a flood, you might be looking at thousands of dollars in out-of-pocket expenses.

Many homeowners assume that their home insurance will cover flood damage – unfortunately, that’s not the case. You need separate coverage. If you’re in a high-risk area, your mortgage lender will require you to have it. But if you don’t, it’s still highly recommended. Give us a call and we’ll walk you through everything you need to know regarding flood insurance.

Umbrella Insurance

Umbrella insurance coverage might have a funny name, but it can really make a huge impact if you’re ever subjected to a major insurance claim from someone else, or if you’re ever sued. Some people find out the hard way that their insurance policy won’t cover all their costs. In some instances, they can suffer financial ruin as a result.

Don’t let this happen to you. We can provide you with an umbrella insurance policy that will pay for any expenses not covered by your auto or homeowners policies. We can also find a policy that will cover expenses incurred due to issues such as being sued for slander or libel. You can even get coverage if you rent instead of own your home – get in touch with us to learn more.

Car Insurance in Boca Raton

Getting auto insurance isn’t just smart – it’s the law. It pays for any damage or medical bills that occur due to a vehicular accident. If you’re caught driving without it, you could face severe fines as well as other penalties. If you’re ever in a wreck and you’re uninsured you could be looking at expenses that you just can’t cover –whether or not you’re at fault.

But do you only need liability coverage, or do you need Personal Injury Protection coverage as well? This means your carrier will pay for medical expenses you incur should you ever be hurt in an accident. Do you need uninsured or underinsured coverage? This will protect you if you’re in a wreck with someone who either isn’t insured at all, or has a policy that won’t cover all of your expenses.

Whatever questions you may have, we’ll have the answers. We have the expertise to make sure you get the right policy at the right price. We also have a wide range of options to choose from – you simply won’t get that through many other insurance companies.

Get In Touch

Our insurance agency is ready to help you get whatever type of coverage you need, and do so at a fair, honest price. If you would like to get a free quote, or you’d just like to learn more about what we do, contact us online or give us a call at (305) 556-1488.

Insurance Client Case Studies

Home Insurance Case Study: Lori Samberg

“We recently worked with a client who was in need of home insurance after being dropped due to their claim experience. This client chose NSI because we are independent brokers and can offer a variety of options, as opposed to an insurance company agent who can only offer you policies from that company. The client found NSI through referral, looking for Southeast Insurance. Acquired in 2013, Southeast Insurance no longer exists but is a well-recognized, local name. NSI was able to help this client when their previous company was not, and with some time, thought, and research, we were able to offer them three different insurance options, all at competitive rates.

We understand that price is an incredibly important factor when it comes to choosing the best policy, which we prioritize, while balancing how much coverage you receive for the money you spend. We want to save as much money as possible for our clients. Sometimes this can be the most affordable policy available, while other times it can be the policy with the most coverage offered. When your worst case scenario occurs, we don’t want you to end up paying more in the long-run when you can be protected with a more comprehensive policy. Whether it’s a more comprehensive policy that will save you money in the long run, or the less expensive policy that still keeps you adequately covered, we do the heavy lifting to ensure you’re set up with the coverage that makes the most sense for you.

In addition to the home insurance policy that we worked to secure for this client, they also ended up picking up auto insurance with NSI. Sometimes it’s more efficient for clients to have all of their policies in one place and, in this case, it was. We were able to get to know this client personally, become acutely aware of their specific needs, and find them competitive rates with exceptional coverage, all in one place.

The client was incredibly appreciative of this help, especially given their situation, and was relieved to know they had options after initially thinking they did not. When we have a client like this one that gets non-renewed, we’re the ones who can help them find other options and receive great coverage with one of our other providers. This also eliminates the hassle of switching from agent to agent. We’re able to build a strong and lasting relationship with our clients because they’ll always be our client, no matter the insurance company their policy is with.”

Home Insurance Case Study: Jodi Kislin

“I have been working with this client for several years now. She had her homeowners insurance with NSI, and as we began working together, we found that we clicked well. I was also able to find her excellent coverage for her auto and umbrella policies. These policies were less expensive and came with better coverage, so it was a win-win situation for her.

In Florida, insurance companies can non-renew clients for any reason that they choose. For this specific client, she was non-renewed due to risk exposure, which was nothing that she caused or could’ve controlled.

I immediately sprang into action, working to find her the best quote possible. Because of everything she was dealing with personally, I called her and explained that she needs to be covered when her policy runs out, reminding her that I promised to take care of things. I asked to speak with one of her beneficiaries as soon as possible, and was able to track down her son when he visited town. I was diligent in following up as prices were beginning to skyrocket, and I didn’t want her to end up in an unfortunate situation.

With many of my elderly clientele, I keep their beneficiary’s phone numbers and emails on file in case I need a secondary point of contact to address a problem and to ensure things are handled smoothly and efficiently.

I have been in contact with her son, forwarding all of the quotes for him to review. He is not from Florida, so I have had to pay close attention to educating him on the Florida insurance laws and rules to make sure he fully understands what makes up the quotes I send over and how they’re broken down.

Moving forward with this client, I continue to work with her son to make sure she remains covered and is receiving the support that she needs; the more stress, trouble, and confusion I can eliminate for my clients, the better.

I know my clients, and sometimes, I know their families. At NSI Insurance Group, we are willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done.”

Home Insurance Case Study: Marie Lavelle

“I had a client that was in need of several different home repairs and was, unfortunately, about to lose his insurance because of it. I received the notice and had 28 days to find him coverage before his current policy expired.

I was having a difficult time getting in touch with my client due to his busy schedule but continued to find a time that would work for us to talk. When we connected, I gave him an itemized list of everything that needed to be fixed in order for him to keep his insurance. He was able to successfully make all of the necessary repairs, but the company still dropped him, which left him feeling incredibly frustrated and slightly panicked, understandably so.

At this point, there were about two weeks left to find my client new coverage. Despite the tight time window, I was able to find it for him. From the beginning, I had already been looking for alternative options in case I was unable to keep him where he was.

I made sure to find him the right coverage once he was dropped by simply staying on top of it. I called, emailed, and followed up as persistently as I could to make sure my client didn’t end up in a worst-case scenario situation. Although I was incredibly busy at work tending to other responsibilities, I still made it a point to make this client my top priority until the situation was rectified. Now, he is fully covered with a great company.

We had spoken and worked together before, but this situation strengthened the relationship because of the urgency of it all. Just like with all of my clients, I recognize it’s my job to make sure, as their representative and agent, that I go the extra mile and make sure they have the best coverage necessary. If it means having to take additional steps, then so be it. I will always gladly take those steps, knowing that the result will pay off for my client, and they will be fully protected.

I try to put myself in my client’s shoes and imagine how I would want to be treated. We all want to be made a priority, so that’s exactly what I do. This client was incredibly grateful for this assistance and guidance through an overwhelming, frustrating, and panic-inducing situation for him.”

Why has my rate gone up if I haven’t filed any claims?

When you purchase insurance you’re pooling risk, meaning that you’re buying into a network. With a policy, you’re not just buying into the coverage given to you directly, you’re buying into the entire pool of coverage for all policy holders in your area. If there is a higher level of claims for the area that you’re in, it’s possible for your rate to go up, despite not having filed a claim yourself.
